Baroon Pocket Dam, Lake Baroon

13:00- 15:00 55min drive from Eumundi Markets by M1

About

This picturesque area is located in between Maleny and Montville and it is a perfect getaway for you and your loved ones. The lake Baroon was a consequence of a heavy rainfall in 1989, and since the dam has been constructed and used for water supply in surrounding towns. The dam features many facilities that can make your whole day enjoyable there. There are toilets, free barbecue, picnic tables all around. Unfortunately, because of big concentration of blue-green algae, it is not recommendable to swim or do any water activities. There is no place around to rent a kayak or anything that could help you enter the water. However, there is a lakeside resort Secrets on the lake, with a beautiful wooden design, in case you would like to dine there or spend a night or two.

For adventurers, there is an option to hike through cross bridges and open forest ridges and maybe even meet some of the wildlife their.

Tips and tricks***

There are few locations from which you can access the lake, I would suggest you to look for the Secrets on the lake restaurant and choose that one, as the other ones might not be as easy to locate, and this recreational area has very good facilities for you to enjoy.

Open for public: September - April 05:30- 18:30, May - August: 06:30- 17:30

Montville

15:00-17:00

About

Montville is a little village, perched on the Blackall range, prominent stretch of peaks with lookouts. This hinterland gem looks like a small French village, with its little coffee shops, cozy restaurants and fine buildings. Here you will find a shop of most extensive wooden clocks, Clock shop Montville, Chocolate shops, such as Chocolate Country with number of different kind home made chocolates, galleries for art lovers, wineries and it doesn’t stop there. Montville is surrounded by mountains, lakes, hills, National Park; therefore, it makes a great weekend gateway.

If you haven’t spent a picnic day at the lake and you feel hungry, then choose any of myriad restaurants around this street for your lunch/ dinner, and take a walk along the street. The walking area consist of only one street, luckily there is everything you need. For a great view but a bit of expensive coffee, I would recommend European style, Poets Café, with a stunning mountain view.
